The Fatal Incident Reconstruction Support Team was established as a cooperative effort between SCSO, Bristol Tennessee Police Department, Kingsport Police Department, and the District Attorney's Office to respond to a rise in vehicle crashes involving death or serious bodily injury. Team members receive specialized training in traffic crash reconstruction where they learn to utilize highly technical equipment that is not normally available to patrol officers. Since its inception, the FIRST team has responded to 40 crashes and has successfully prosecuted more than 30 people for crimes ranging from Aggravated Assault to Vehicular Homicide. The team participates in a host of other traffic safety programs such as "click it or ticket" and "you drink, you drive, you lose," child safety seat checks, and sobriety checkpoints.
